Helping the hearing impaired to live a life as normal as they possibly could has been my goal since becoming a licensed hearing aid dispenser. Our equipment is totally portable giving us the flexibility to serve our patients either in their home or my office.
Today's hearing aids really should have a new name. Although they look the same as hearings aids of the past, the new aids have the power due to having a small computer imbedded within them. The flexibility of tuning these aids to meet the patients hearing needs is almost unlimited.
The patient's hearing loss is entered into the computer . The aids are paired to the computer and automatically customized to meet each patient's hearing loss needs as showing within their testing. From there, numerous adjustments can be made to customize the aids and the patient can control them by touching a small button on the aids to change under different settings based on their immediate needs even as simple by the little remote control the size of a credit card.
By using "Blue Tooth" technology within the hearing aids, the patient can adjust both at the same time when they adjust just one. Another great feature is a patient can answer their cell phone through this technology by pressing the phone button on the remote for the aids as long as the phone is within a 30 foot range.
One of my passions is being able to help those who live in poverty or very low income needs. In 1999, I became involved with the Flying Samaritans, a health care organization providing health care to the peninsula of Baja California, Mexico. Each month we provide free hearing exams and hearing aids at the Flying Samaritan clinic in Rosarito Beach. As many as 20-40 patients are seen each month to where many miracles occur as children and adults who are clinically deaf get to receive their hearing aids and actually get to hear for the first time in their lives.
